Spring has finally arrived... or perhaps Summer is just early? Either way, the weather has definitely taken a turn for the better! True Cape Townian's spend many a lazy afternoon on one of the many beautiful beaches, smothered in suncream, relaxing behind sunglasses, sipping something wild and alcoholic as the sun goes down. We work really hard when we need to, but we've turned relaxing into a pure artform!
For those of us unable to spend the evening hours on the beach, there is something sublime about being in the Villa grounds. Big shady trees cast crazy dancing shadow's on the grass. Squirrels chatter in morse code, calling tree to tree. Guinnea Fowl hold roll call, with lookouts perched up high and far above, the Black Goshawk makes lazy circles in the late afternoon sky. The air takes on a sweet quality and the pace of the day begins to slow. There is no better place to be....
As always, the Villa has been a hive of activity over the past few months. During the Winter months, Mother Nature ensures that we have plenty to do tidying up fallen branches and clearing debris which floods onto fields in heavy rains. Although it's a generally quieter time of year, there is always something to keep us out of mischief and now, as the wonderful, sunny weather returns, we find ourselves prepping for our next group of guests with added anticipation of the enjoyment they will have while staying here.
Our pub is open every Wednesday night and we have once again resumed our Summer Season "Bring & Braai's". We provide braai drums and even the fire on a Wednesday. All members need to do is bring their own meat etc and the scene is set for an evening of social interaction and relaxation. Be warned - you never know when the urge to join us in a little karaoke may strike you!
We had some unexpected excitement recently when one of the hawks flew in through the open office door in hot pursuit of a pigeon. After a few seconds of tussling, the pigeon beat a hasty retreat back through the open door, leaving the hawk inside. Of course, the hawk suddenly realised he was inside and in his desire to exit, flew through the glass panel above the door! Thankfully, the hawk was uninjured, but it certainly made for an interesting "war" story!
We are also gearing up for the Classic Car & Bike Show in January 2010. This is the 10th Anniversary show and is a much anticipated highlight of our annual events calendar... Other potential events that are in the pipeline include a potjiekos competition, mini beerfest and family funday! More information will be posted as soon as it is available.
Last, but by no means least, we are so very proud to be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of our beautiful Cape Town Hospitality house in 2009. The past 20 years have been filled with new friends, familiar faces, functions, shared joys and sadnesses and above all, the spirit of Servo per Amikeco. We raise a glass to the next 20 years and hope to share them with all of you!
So, as we embark on the next stage of our journey, to our regulars, we're always happy to see you and to new friends, yet to be made, we look forward to every minute.
